The local area
Our villas are situated in Matsoukata on the road to the port of Fiskardo, a five-minute drive away at the
north end of Kefalonia.
Fiskardo is a colourful delight. Sit at a bar or taverna and watch well-heeled yachts and well-used
fishing boats arrive at the quaint harbour, or peer through the windows of the whitewashed shops
which line the waterside. The elegance of the Venetian architecture bears testimony to the fact
that the north of the island was spared the devastation caused further south by the 1953 earthquake.
Look out across the bay to Ithaca, the neighbouring island (a boat trip away) where Homer's legendary
hero Odysseus once ruled. There are also daily ferries to Lefkas or you could hire your own boat to
explore the beautiful coastline.
The north is blessed with beaches, none more picturesque than Foki Bay,
two kilometres from Velanidia Villas with a backdrop of cypress trees that rise to the sky.
